Adobe has made a significant shift in how its AI image and video generation tool, Firefly, works. Starting January 23, 2026, and running through March 16, 2026, Adobe is removing the credit-based system that previously limited how much creators could use Firefly. This is a major change that affects standalone Firefly subscribers, transforming the service from a metered, pay-as-you-go model to an unlimited creative tool.
What This Means
Previously, Firefly users had to keep track of their monthly credit balance, which could interrupt creative workflows when credits ran out. Now, during this promotional period, eligible subscribers can generate as many images and videos as they want without worrying about running out of credits. Adobe is essentially treating Firefly as an “unlimited engine” rather than a precious resource you need to ration.
Who Benefits
This offer is available to subscribers of Firefly Pro, Firefly Premium, and certain credit add-on plans (ranging from 2,000 to 50,000 credits). The unlimited access works across all Firefly platforms: the web app at firefly.adobe.com, Firefly Boards, and the mobile apps for both android and iOS.
What’s Included
The unlimited generation applies to Adobe’s own Firefly Image and Video models. Importantly, it also extends to popular third-party integrations like Google Nano Banana Pro, OpenAI GPT Image Generation, and Runway Gen-4. You can generate images at resolutions up to 2K and create videos at up to 2K resolution within the Firefly app. Adobe has also introduced a new Firefly video editor for more sophisticated video creation with precise camera controls.
Why Adobe Made This Change
Adobe reports that 86% of creators now use AI daily, and the average length of creative prompts has doubled over the past year. This suggests that AI has become central to creative workflows rather than just an occasional tool. By removing credit anxiety, Adobe is encouraging users to experiment more freely and treat AI as a genuine creative partner rather than something to use sparingly.
Important Note for Creative Cloud Users
This unlimited offer specifically targets standalone Firefly subscriptions. Creative Cloud Pro users still have “unlimited standard generations,” but certain premium video features may still draw from a monthly credit pool in desktop apps like Premiere Pro.
This change represents Adobe’s recognition that AI tools work best when creators can iterate freely without constantly checking their credit balance. It’s a bold move that could reshape how professionals integrate AI into their daily creative processes.
